PGY1 Community Pharmacy Residency Program

Samford University's postgraduate year one (PGY1) community-based pharmacy residency program is in partnership with Christ Health Center, providing vast opportunities for practice management, patient care, and teaching in multiple environments.

With a full dispensing pharmacy located within a medical clinic, the pharmacy resident has the opportunity to work with patients from the start of care all the way to the completion of counseling. The pharmacy resident has the opportunity to work collaboratively with nurse practitioners, medical residents, physicians, and psychiatrists. The resident also trains alongside and precepts pharmacy students. The opportunities for interprofessional development are innumerable as pharmacy residents work alongside these other providers every day, truly developing relationships that will last a lifetime and clinical skills that will serve patients for years to come.

A Message from Dr. Brown

Director’s Welcome

Christ Health Center takes a team-based approach to both patient care and education. By training pharmacy residents and students alongside other providers, patient care is more effective and efficient, and opportunities for learning are available for learners at every level. My goal for this program is to train pharmacy residents to become well-positioned to enter community-based practice or seek further residency training.
